Do I need special equipment/gear?
We strongly recommend you wear good walking boots
and have breathable waterproof jacket and overtrousers. Also, some of our members
use walking poles to take the weight off their joints and assist with balance over
rough terrain. In addition, a rucksack for carrying food, water and any other item
required.
Do I need to bring sandwiches and a drink?
Yes. Our summer programme includes a picnic
stop. However, during our winter programme a pub lunch is arranged at the end of
the walk (not compulsory). Walkers may still wish to bring a light snack.
Can I share transport?
Of course, it makes sense. On your first walk ask our contact,
the leader, or any committee member who will point out possible members, and then
its up to you. We have members throughout Leicestershire, Rutland, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire,
Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.
What about insurance?
The committee and walk leaders cannot accept responsibility
for any loss or injury however caused. Participation in walking and club events is
entirely at the risk of the member or guest. It is worth checking your household
contents insurance all risks has adequate provision for items you would take out
on a walk. Leaders do have the coverage of a Public Liability Insurance Policy provided
by our affiliated membership of the Ramblers.
How far do you walk?
We have a varied programme of walks to suit all. Fortnightly walks are between 8 and 10 miles with monthly walks over 10 miles for more energetic walkers. In addition we have monthly strolls of 4 to 7 miles and a series of summer evening walks which are between 4 and 5 miles. The latter are an excellent introduction to our walking.
May I bring my dog?
Yes but we would ask that you observe the Countryside Code, and keep dogs under control and on a lead throughout the walk.
