Bridlington April 2025
Spring Break 2025 at the Monarch Hotel Bridlington
The April spring break holiday was a memorable 4-night stay along the stunning East Yorkshire coastline, hosted at the Leisureplex Monarch Hotel. The trip was a resounding success, particularly with the delightful weather, as we enjoyed a week of sunshine without a single rainy day. The hotel offered an inclusive package featuring full breakfasts and evening meals, both of which were highly satisfactory. In the evenings, the hotel provided engaging entertainment, and many of the group gathered to continue the fun and enjoy a lively evening of dancing.
The walk itinerary covered four days of exploring the stunning East Yorkshire coastline, offering a mix of coastal, rural, and natural landscapes.
On Day 1, the group began at South Landing with a moderate hike along Flamborough Head’s white chalk cliffs, offering dramatic views of the North Sea and opportunities to spot seabirds and seals. Some of the group chose to extend the walk along the cliffs to walk back to Bridlington.
On Day 2, two options were available: the first involved taking a train from Filey to Scarborough and doing a linear walk back from Scarborough to Filey along the Cleveland Way, providing panoramic views of rugged cliffs, tranquil countryside, and wildlife-rich areas like Filey Brigg. The second group opted to do a circular route around Hornsea Mere, exploring the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire, passing Wassand Hall and the charming village of Goxhill, and joining the Trans Pennine Trail for stunning countryside vistas.
On Day 3, the walk started at Flamborough along the cliffs, where dramatic cliff-top views and the renowned birdwatching site of Bempton Cliffs awaited, offering a chance to spot kittywakes, fulmers, gannets, herring gulls and razorbills, although the puffins were a bit elusive. There was an opportunity to stop at the RSPB centre and the observation area, which provided excellent vantage points and a peaceful environment for nature lovers before returning back to Flamborough.
Day 4, as we were driving back home, we did a shorter 5-mile walk, exploring Sewerby, a picturesque village with Sewerby Hall and Gardens. The walk followed the coast, passing through Danes Dyke, a serene wooded ravine, and offered panoramic clifftop views before concluding with a peaceful walk through the countryside back to Sewerby, making for a fulfilling conclusion to the journey.
