Twixmas Break Dec 2025 Lincoln
Our 2025 Twixmas holiday took our walking group to the historic cathedral city of Lincoln. Ten members stayed for the full three nights, with day visitors Neil and Chris joining us for the first and second walks respectively.
On arrival, Bill and Alison led an informal tour of Lincoln, taking in the cathedral and castle before descending to Brayford Wharf.
Sunday’s walk was a circular route starting from Doddington and heading west of Lincoln. The route passed through Harby, Old Wood, Big Wood and Western Plantation before continuing on to Skellingthorpe. Covering approximately 10 miles, the walk was largely flat and concluded with well-earned tea at the café at Doddington Hall.
Monday’s walk began at North Scarle, heading towards Besthorpe and along a scenic stretch of the Trent Valley. We followed the river past the boating lake before climbing gently up to Spalford. This walk was also around 10 miles in length and, once again, mostly flat.
On the final day, several members rounded off the trip with a 2.5-mile walk from Belvoir Castle before heading home.
The local Wetherspoon’s was, once again, the usual choice for breakfast, while evening meals made use of a variety of local restaurants.
Overall, it was another enjoyable OTH holiday.
